Scimplify Secures $25 Million to Expand AI-Driven Specialty Chemicals Production
As industries worldwide aim to decrease their dependency on Chinese suppliers, the Indian startup Scimplify has successfully raised $25 million to enhance its AI-driven methodologies for producing specialty chemicals and essential materials. The sectors of semiconductors, defense, and energy are identified as key areas for growth.
Investment Round and Valuation
This latest funding round, an all-equity strategic investment, was spearheaded by Hitachi Ventures, with participation from notable customers Henkel and Teknor Apex who have also joined as new investors. Existing stakeholders such as Accel India, Bertelsmann India Investments, Omnivore, and 3one4 Capital further contributed to this round. Reports indicate that this funding boosts the valuation of the Bengaluru-based startup to $250 million, an increase from $150 million following a $40 million Series B round in March 2025. After this round, Scimplify’s total equity funding now amounts to $80 million, although the firm has opted not to disclose specific valuation details.
Accelerating Materials Discovery
The surge in AI adoption and advanced computational capabilities has facilitated faster materials discovery and research processes. However, the transformation of promising chemical research into commercially viable products at scale often remains a lengthy and intricate endeavor. Manufacturers typically face challenges in developing production processes, validating facilities, and adhering to stringent quality standards, all while navigating supply chains that are increasingly limited.
Scimplify is addressing these challenges by aiming to expedite the product delivery timeline. Co-founder Sachin Santhosh noted that in some instances, the company has been able to complete a customer’s order—from receipt of requirements to delivery of finished materials—within just two months. This contrasts sharply with the typical 12 to 18-month timeframe usually required for such processes.
Innovative Production Processes
Once an order is received, Scimplify utilizes its research facilities in Bengaluru and Hyderabad to develop chemical manufacturing processes. These processes are subsequently transferred to partner factories for large-scale production. Central to this operation is Scimplify’s proprietary AI platform, Scinode, which streamlines the entire process by identifying optimal production routes and manufacturing facilities while rigorously tracking compliance with quality and regulatory requirements. Different AI agents within the platform focus on specific functions such as research, manufacturing, and quality control. As Santhosh emphasized, “Each of these agents is basically solving for what [a customer] would want, working backward from the customer’s requirement.” This approach enables Scimplify to enhance efficiency and retain contextual knowledge for future customer interactions.
Commitment to Global Manufacturing
Currently, 90% of Scimplify’s manufacturing activities occur within India. However, there are plans for expansion into the U.S. and Japan over the coming year, as the startup strives to capture a broader client base in these markets. The United States has particularly emerged as a vital growth opportunity, with Scimplify’s annualized revenue run rate in the country skyrocketing sixfold to approximately $60 million, up from $10 million a year ago. This market now constitutes around 30% of the company’s overall business, while international customers collectively contribute more than half of its total revenue—a significant rise from less than 5% recorded about 18 months ago.
Rapid Growth in Revenue and Key Industries
In total, Scimplify currently serves over 1,000 customers and has successfully delivered products to more than 40 countries. The startup now reports an annualized revenue run rate of about $200 million, having tripled its figures from the previous year. Scimplify is targeting a revenue run rate of $400 million over the next year, and it has maintained a positive EBITDA for the past two months. Expectations are that the company will also become profitable after tax by the end of this month.
Key markets for Scimplify’s growth include energy, electronics, and defense, which currently account for approximately 45% to 50% of the company’s revenue, climbing from under 15% a year prior. This growth is driven largely by increasing demand for materials due to the rise of AI in electronics and energy infrastructure, as well as heightened demand from the defense sector amidst ongoing global conflicts.
Sustainable Alternatives
Scimplify is innovating in sustainability by producing tungsten derivatives from scrap materials, providing customers with alternative sources for materials heavily concentrated in China. The startup is also delving into rare-earth materials, navigating an important area where global supply chains are heavily reliant on Chinese supply.
The company collaborates with a range of influential clients, such as TDK, a Japanese electronics manufacturer, BASF, a prominent German chemicals group, and Hitachi. Santhosh highlighted a collaborative project with TDK as a prime example of how Scimplify significantly reduces the timeline needed for developing and delivering specialty materials. However, he noted that timelines will vary based on the specific project requirements.
Future Investments and Workforce Development
With the recent funding, Scimplify has earmarked about $7.5 million for its expansion initiatives in the United States, particularly aimed at enhancing its manufacturing network. Another $2 million is allocated for further development of the Scinode platform. The startup currently employs around 340 individuals, with a team of roughly 70 scientists. While the majority of its workforce is based in India, teams are also established in the U.S., Japan, Indonesia, and the UAE.
In conclusion, Scimplify’s innovative approach to specialty chemicals and critical materials places it at the forefront of shifting supply chains and emerging growth markets, emphasizing sustainability and cutting-edge technology.
