Google Unveils London AI Campus with Educational Pilot

Google has launched a new AI Campus in London, designed to transform digital skills training for students. Situated in Somers Town, Camden, this initiative promises to enhance the digital landscape by empowering the youth with advanced AI education.

With support from Camden Council and Camden Learning, the AI Campus focuses on motivating local sixth form students. The two-year educational pilot offers access to state-of-the-art resources on AI and machine learning, along with mentoring from Google and Google DeepMind experts.

Google has also allocated a substantial grant of £865,000 to fund AI literacy programs across the nation. This initiative aims to spread knowledge and inspiration to a broader audience, making AI education accessible and impactful for students throughout the UK.

The AI Campus introduces students to real-world projects that connect AI to various fields such as health, social sciences, and the arts. The program demonstrates how AI can address both local and global challenges, providing students with practical insights and hands-on experience.

The initial group of 32 students already participating reflects Camden’s diverse post-16 student population. Priority was given to applicants from underrepresented backgrounds, ensuring a wide range of perspectives and fostering inclusion.

Starting mid-2025, the Campus will widen its reach, offering out-of-school learning and support to a greater number of Camden students. This expanded access aims to enhance their foundational AI skills and provide AI-focused masterclasses.

Google’s commitment to this cause is evident in their goal of reaching 250,000 students by 2026, in partnership with the Raspberry Pi Foundation and ParentZone. This collaboration will provide valuable teacher training and bolster the reach of the Experience AI program.

Through this ambitious project, Google strives to ensure that everyone, regardless of their background, can seize AI’s benefits. By equipping students with top-tier AI education, the initiative seeks to turbocharge the UK’s competitiveness and usher in a new era of innovation.
