Google.org has unveiled a $25M funding project aimed at advancing AI skills among educators and students in the U.S. This initiative is part of the larger AI Opportunity Fund.

Matthew Jones, a special education teacher, has already witnessed the transformative power of AI. He notes that AI helps him prepare better and faster, giving him more time for his students.

With over 30% of educators already using AI and 72% of students eager to learn about it, the interest in AI tools in education is skyrocketing.

The funding will support five organizations: International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), 4-H, aiEDU, CodePath, and STEM From Dance. These groups focus on providing AI knowledge and skills to underserved communities.

ISTE’s GenerationAI initiative will train teachers with tools and confidence to use AI responsibly in classrooms, in collaboration with various educational associations.

4-H aims to enhance AI learning in rural areas through local programs across multiple states.

aiEDU will address AI literacy gaps among underserved students, especially in rural and Indigenous communities.

CodePath is set to deliver industry-approved AI courses to college computing students who are underserved.

STEM From Dance plans to infuse AI into dance choreography, targeting girls of color to bridge the gender gap in STEM fields.

ISTE and 4-H will also integrate Google’s AI learning resources, including a self-paced course called Generative AI for Educators.

This announcement builds on Google.org’s $75M AI Opportunity Fund, aiming to equip over one million Americans with essential AI skills.
