Rabbit’s r1, the AI assistant that had everyone buzzing at CES, has a new trick up its sleeve. The ‘beta rabbit’ mode is here, boosting its ability to chat and handle complex or multi-step instructions.

This new mode means the little gadget can now ask follow-up questions to make sure it gets your requests right. For instance, you can say, ‘Suggest three books similar to The Power of Now, include page length, year of release, and ratings, and save it as a note titled Reading List. Also, add pictures of the authors,’

Not just for book worms, this upgrade lets Rabbit r1 set travel itineraries, find deals, and even recommend products. Impressive for a demo, but in everyday use, it can be unpredictable and awkward on a tiny screen.

Setting a timer for baking cookies? You’d better have your recipe handy because Rabbit r1 can’t guess the details like temperature and type of cookies. However, it can tell you precisely how long two dozen chocolate chip cookies should bake at 300 degrees.

The much-anticipated ‘large action model’ is still missing in action. This feature was supposed to let Rabbit r1 navigate apps and websites on its own to complete tasks. So far, it’s just a no-show, leaving many users waiting.

Despite these setbacks, there’s hope for Rabbit r1 to become more useful in the future. Many early adopters haven’t given up on the little gadget just yet.

In the end, Rabbit’s r1 shows promise but still has a long way to go to meet expectations.
