This advancement isn’t limited to flooding. By making data accessible, experts and communities see a ripple effect of this technology on preparedness. Researchers across 150 countries are now harnessing this AI marvel through an API for deep-dive analysis and flood response optimization.

The AI uses state-of-the-art technology to forecast flood risks in places where local data is limited, utilizing ‘virtual gauges.’ These help provide critical information to countries that previously had little access to reliable flood forecasts. It’s expected to aid areas that lack traditional forecasting resources.

Moreover, historical datasets of the flood forecasting model are now publicly available. From as far back as 1981, this data provides insight into flooding patterns, helping to develop better prevention strategies and understand flood impacts globally.

AI-driven forecasts aren’t just theoretical—they’re being used on the ground. In Brazil’s Rio Grande do Sul, these predictions aided rapid response to devastating floods, collaborating with local authorities and organizations.

Such AI tools empower NGOs and governments to act quickly, providing essentials like water and food to the affected. In India and Africa, humanitarian organizations used these tools to help communities brace for floods.

The focus is on making actionable information accessible worldwide. Pursuing the UN’s Early Warnings for All initiative, this tech aims to lessen climate crisis impacts, putting critical tools in the hands of those who can make a difference.
