  5. just out of curiosity, i wish we could see the training prompt.. did openai tell the model to explicitly not cheat, because the ai just pulled a captain kirk and tried to solve the kobayashi maru… idea here is, is getting the method of solution the goal or the solution it self… if you're looking for the solution, then its obviously easier to just find the answers right. now if there were no answers, it would "hack" the whole internet, not find what's its looking for and then try to solve it… getting an answer using the path of least resistance seems like what any inteligent being would do. so what did anyone expect?

  6. You are missing the ecological aspects of the story. These AI models are not going to inhabit a world alone. There will be other AI. One way or another they will compete with one another and generate ecological systems. Think of it this way. These models behave like people do in the wild. Yet people form societies which generally offer constraints on behavior to function. How do they do it? Does it not seem reasonable that the AI will need to watch one another?

    Too few humans to watch and too slow? Why not exterior AI models watching the behavior in the sandbox and ready to call time? I do mean models watching. There should be more than one and all independent of one another. No watcher collaboration as a general principle.

  11. This is my last comment I don’t wanna get banned, but we’re basically in the gladiator UFCAI fights where we’ve shrugged off all the rules that got us to where we’re at. You have to have some sort of framework or ethics otherwise everything falls apart.

  12. As a person who works in frontier AI. The issue AND the fix is simple. We train ai's to give a response.. And we give it all of the information in the entire world. But yet we NEVER ever teach it morals or ethics. We NEVER teach it that just be it can do something, SHOULD it do something.

  13. Well, the proposals to slow down surely feel good. But, there are (at least) three countries, China, Russia, and Iran, I would not trust a femto-second to keep any promises they might make. So better to not even try as the false sense of security may lead to the worst possible conclusions.

    AI-safety organizations (MIRI, Palisade Research, etc.) have an institutional and funding interest in "warning shot" framing — that doesn't make their concerns insincere, but it does mean their public statements are optimized for alarm, not calibration.
    Cybersecurity vendors have jumped on this hard — some of the writeups on this incident are thinly veiled product marketing ("here's how our platform would have caught it").
    It's landing in the middle of US-China AI policy fights, so it gets pulled into export-control and national-security arguments that have nothing to do with the technical facts of a package-proxy zero-day.
    And content creators, obviously, get more views from "AI escapes, humanity in danger" than from "company had inadequate network segmentation and slow log review."

    So the honest read is: there's a real, boring security failure at the center of this (bad isolation design, slow detection, no authorization) wrapped in a lot of narrative that different actors have separate reasons to inflate.
