The Challenge of AI Integration for Big Businesses
Implementing reliable AI tools has become a significant hurdle for large enterprises. In response, new organizations are emerging, populated by forward-deployed engineers (FDEs) who specialize in helping companies get their AI systems operational.
Efrat Rapoport, a former executive at Salesforce and the co-founder of the newly launched company June, notes, “AI, paradoxically, increases the demand for professional services.” This suggests that instead of streamlining operations, AI implementation often leads companies to hire even more personnel to manage the complexities involved.
A New Approach to AI Implementation
Rapoport, along with her co-founders Ohad Hen, Barak Goldstein, and Idan Tsitiat, aims to revolutionize how AI is integrated into businesses. June has successfully raised $20 million in pre-seed funding led by Marc Benioff’s Time Ventures, with endorsements from tech leaders like Michael Dell, Aaron Levie, and George Kurtz. The company chose not to disclose its valuation.
Before launching June, the founders were behind Bonobo AI, a company that created a voice-to-text service in 2017 and was acquired by Salesforce two years later. They spent several years working within Salesforce’s AI initiatives, witnessing firsthand the struggles customers faced in integrating AI with their existing systems.
The potential of June was evident to investors, according to Rapoport, who mentioned, “we didn’t even have a deck for this raise.”
The SaaS Crisis and Legacy Systems
The current climate, often referred to as the “SaaSpocalypse,” is causing many software companies to fear potential obsolescence from AI advancements. However, as of now, there is still no one-size-fits-all AI solution capable of seamlessly integrating with existing customer relationship management (CRM) systems or data management platforms like Salesforce, ServiceNow, and others.
“First, someone has to deal with legacy systems before AI can create value,” Rapoport explains. Issues such as fragmented data, complex workflows, and years of accumulated technical debt complicate matters significantly.
While creating an agent template can be straightforward, integrating it with existing data structures poses more challenges. “How does an agent know how to operate when you have 10 duplicate database fields that serve the same purpose, yet various teams use them?” Rapoport asks.
June’s Innovative Solutions
June’s platform is designed to assess a company’s existing systems, identify bottlenecks, and develop optimized, agent-driven processes to enhance efficiency. The platform automatically notifies team members through established communication channels within the organization.
Rapoport states, “We provide a comprehensive roadmap of what needs to happen step-by-step for successful agent implementation in a complex enterprise environment.” The platform guides users with directives such as, “Remove these duplicates. Connect to this data source.” Users can then initiate the build by clicking on each task, prompting June to handle the implementation.
A Success Story: CMG’s Transformation
Paul Akinmade, Chief Strategy Officer at CMG, a prominent U.S. mortgage lender, faced significant obstacles when attempting to quickly shift his company’s software architecture to Claude Code. Integration with Salesforce proved to be particularly problematic. Akinmade had previously committed to having 100 agents operational by the time of Salesforce’s annual conference, but progress was hampered.
After weeks of meetings with architects and consultations with FDEs, Akinmade’s team remained stuck. The introduction of June altered this landscape, delivering clarity on agent deployment and facilitating a safe launch even before their official kickoff call with the company.
Rapoport envisions June as a resource that complements FDEs and consultants. However, many customers are drawn to the platform for its capability to enable them to bypass the need for FDEs altogether.
When Akinmade first considered testing June at CMG, he made his preferences clear: “If your product requires FDEs, I don’t want it. I’ve already experienced that and I’m getting frustrated. I want a straightforward tool, not a black box that only certain people understand.”
Evidently, June met his criteria, becoming a game-changer in the process.
Conclusion
The challenges that large organizations face when implementing AI are complex and multifaceted. Traditional solutions involve deploying additional staff, but June is offering a new strategy that integrates AI into existing infrastructures more smoothly. Through tools that enhance efficiency and provide clarity, June empowers businesses to overcome the hurdles associated with legacy systems and fragmented data, ultimately enabling them to harness the full potential of AI.
